The Minister for Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has announced that the government plans to reintroduce road tolls. The Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has already received approval to begin this process.
This announcement was made during the presentation of the 2024 mid-year fiscal policy review in Parliament on Tuesday, July 23.
Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam disclosed that the government has approved plans to reintroduce road and bridge tolls in 2025. This move is part of a broader strategy to improve infrastructure funding and management.
According to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, “The flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party has suggested reconsidering road tolls. The Minister for Roads has Cabinet approval to start the reintroduction process. While these tolls won’t be implemented immediately, a roadmap for their reintroduction will be provided.”
