Some areas across the country have been experiencing significant power cuts, and they have been happening in an untimely manner, which has made some citizens rage due to dissatisfaction with services provided by ECG.

In response to these unfortunate occurrences, ECG Managing Director, Mr. Samuel Dubik Masubir Mahama, attributed the cause to damages of transformers from an overloading perspective.

This has resulted in blown fuses and broken conductors, causing outages especially during the peak load period (7pm -11pm) in the affected areas.

In his statement, he emphasized that about 630 transformers across the country need replacement and servicing to help return to their normal status.

He, therefore, appealed to Ghanaians to exercise patience as they work on fixing the problem.

However, in a plot twist, Honorable John Jinapor,  member of Parliament representing the Yapei-Kusawgu constituency.

has made a revelation which gives an insight into the actual cause of power cuts by ECG.
According to Honorable John Jinapor,
After almost a year of monitoring the operation and activities of ECG, he can confidently but sadly confirm that the current load shedding we are experiencing is not technical but financial.

His study report indicated that the unfortunate cause is happening as a result of mismanagement and misapplication of funds by ECG management, which has contributed to the mess we are experiencing.

He further revealed in a press release that about GH₵500 million (five hundred million Ghana Cedis) cannot be accounted for by ECG management.

In his report, he stated that ECG received revenue to the tune of GH₵820 million, of which an additional amount of GH₵200 million was to be topped up by the Ministry of Finance. The total amount said will now be over GH₵1 billion.

In view of all these, he listed out disbursement hacks that took place with the available GH₵820 million. According to the report, instead of paying GH₵500 million to the power sector players, ECG decided to disburse GH₵120 million to the level A beneficiaries (IPPS), And GH₵300 million supposed to be paid to Gridco, VRA, and other power sector players received only GH₵162 million. This means that a total of GH₵500 million cannot be accounted for.

Electricity Company of Ghana is yet to refute the allegation made by Honorable John Jinapor.
