FC Barcelona’s iconic former players, the Barça Legends, have officially confirmed their first match of the season in Ghana, where they will take on a selection of the country’s football greats. Scheduled for Sunday, November 10, at 3 PM local time (5 PM CEST), the match will take place at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi. With a capacity of 40,500, it is Ghana’s largest stadium, situated approximately 250 km from the capital, Accra.
This highly anticipated event marks the fifth time the Barça Legends will grace African soil. Their first appearance was in Mozambique in 2017, followed by Morocco in 2019, and most recently, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2023.
A Clash of Legends
The Ghanaian squad will feature an impressive lineup of former stars, including three-time African Player of the Year, Abedi Pelé. Best known for his Champions League victory with Olympique de Marseille in 1993, Pelé will be joined by Asamoah Gyan, who enjoyed successful stints at clubs like Sunderland, Udinese, and Modena. Also joining the fray is Stephen Appiah, famed for his performances in Serie A with clubs such as Juventus, Parma, Bologna, and Udinese.
Albert Ferrer, coach of the Barça Legends, will soon reveal his roster for the match. Ferrer’s team will be looking to build on last season’s remarkable form, during which they won all five of their games.
Barça Legends: A Global Initiative
Launched in 2016, the Barça Legends programme is an initiative by FC Barcelona to bring together the club’s former stars, with the goal of promoting the Barça brand globally. Through these matches, the club continues to spread its values and heritage to fans around the world, while celebrating the unforgettable careers of its past icons.
With the stage set for a showdown between European and African football legends, this match promises to be an unmissable spectacle for football enthusiasts.
