Christiano Ronaldo will lead the Portuguese national team to the upcoming 2024 European nations tournament. The five times ballon d’Or winner is showcasing his determination and influence even at the age of 39.
Cristiano Ronaldo is set to make a record sixth appearance at the European Championship with Portugal’s squad for Euro 2024. He first represented Portugal at Euro 2004, 20 years ago, when the host nation was beaten by Greece in the final.
Ronaldo has been a crucial figure for Portugal, having made a total of 206 international appearances, scoring 128 goals. He holds the records for most appearances (183), goals (140) and assists (42) in the Champions League, goals in the European Championship (14), and is the first player to score at five Euros and in eleven consecutive tournaments.
At 39 years old, Ronaldo remains an integral part of Portugal’s squad despite some speculation about his future involvement after the 2022 World Cup.. His inclusion in the Euro 2024 team comes as no surprise, as he continues to be a key player under coach Roberto Martínez.
The Portuguese national team has won the European Championship (Euros) once in their history. In 2016, Portugal defeated France 1-0 in the final to win their first ever major international trophy.
Portugal has also won the inaugural UEFA Nations League in 2019, defeating the Netherlands in the final.
